O Pope Francis expressed solidarity with the population of Rio Grande do Sulaffected by floods, during the Regina Caeli prayer this Sunday (5). The pontiff mentioned the drama experienced by the people of Rio Grande do Sul and offered his prayers for the victims, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. โI want to assure my prayers for the populations of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil, affected by major floods. May the Lord welcome the dead and comfort their families and those who had to abandon their homesโ, said the pontiff. The archbishop of Porto Alegre and president of the CNBB, Dom Jaime Spengler, described the situation as chaotic, with several areas submerged due to heavy rains. According to the State Civil Defense, to date 78 deaths have been recorded, six deaths under investigation and 101 missing people.
